1LT Russ "Redbone" Rotan refuels from a KC-135R Stratotanker of the 6th Air Mobility Wing during a 'Long-Rifle' mission to Avon Park Bombing Range in central Florida. Redbone is flying F-16CJ, serial # 91-0376, of the 77th Fighter Squadron, 20th Fighter Wing from Shaw AFB, S.C. on 4 April, 2007. The KC-135R is from MacDill AFB, Fla. This jet carries a LANTIRN targeting pod on the right intake cheek mount in place of the Harm Targeting System (HTS) pod usually found there on F-16CJs. With most upgrades under the CCIP program complete this and other F-16s of the 20th FW can now carry targeting pods and self-designate targets to accomplish the Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses (DEAD) mission. Redbone wears a Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System helmet. © 2007 Greg L. Davis, Aviation Photojournalist cactusinburner@yahoo.com
